Rescue Skills Workshop

SCUBA Diver Rescue Workshop
Perhaps you're a diver that has never had any training on what to do if an emergency arises?
Perhaps you're a trained Rescue Diver or Instructor, but have not taught or participated in any Rescue
practice since you were certified?
Perhaps you're doing surface support or accompanying your loved ones on dive outings, but stay on land
and would like to lend a hand if/when an emergency arises?
This workshop will assist with making the SCUBA sport a safer place and give all participants (divers and
land lovers) the self courage and some muscle memory on how/when to step into an emergency at a
dive site.
That said, this is not a full blown sanctioned 2 day PADI Rescue Course. Rather, we will delve into some
of the skills from a Rescue course and have participants (from in the water to topside) practice those in
a scenario based but fun and educational workshop.
A few of the big ticket skills that we would introduce or refresh the participants on include:
Locating a missing Diver
Assisting a Tired/Panicked Diver
Exiting an Injured Diver
Topside Support for the aforementioned activities, EMS activation, Logistics and Data Collection
More Specific Skills Introduced/Refreshed:
1. Demonstrate the correct procedures for the following self-rescue situations:
• Cramp release
• Use of an alternate air source
2. Exercise 1 — Tired Diver
• Assist a tired (rational) responsive diver at the surface, demonstrating:
• Approach
• Evaluation
• Making Contact
• Reassuring the Diver
• Assists and Transport
• Equipment Removal
3. Exercise 2 — Panicked Diver
• Rescue a panicked (irrational) diver, demonstrating:
• Approach and Evaluation
• Making Contact
• Releases
• Approach with a quick reverse to stay out of a panicked diver’s grasp
4. Exercise 5 — Missing Diver
